Iconic Eucalyptus Diamonds Relaunched at Melbourne Royal Show

One of Australia’s favourite lollies is back after 25 years

The Melbourne Rock Candy Company is bringing back a beloved taste of Australia's past. After a 25-year hiatus, Eucalyptus Diamonds, one of Australia's most iconic lollies, will return to the shelves this September, launching at the Melbourne Royal Show.

Steve Scott has over 30 years’ experience in the confectionery industry, beginning by packing lollies in a friend’s business as a 12-year-old. Driven by a passion for the sweets industry, he eventually founded one of Australia’s most successful rock candy manufacturers, The Melbourne Rock Candy Company. Now, he’s relaunching the Eucalyptus Diamonds using the original recipe to delight a new generation.

Eucalyptus Diamonds, originally made by Allans Lollies almost a century ago, became a favourite for their strong eucalyptus flavour, refreshing menthol-like kick, and soothing properties. The distinctive diamond-shaped boiled sweet quickly became a nostalgic treat for many Australians. Lagoon Confectionery later took over production until the mid-1990s, when Eucalyptus Diamonds disappeared from shelves, leaving dedicated fans disappointed.

“We’ve had customers asking for Eucalyptus Diamonds for years, so we knew there was a solid demand,” says Steve. “When we had the opportunity to purchase the original equipment, we knew it was time to bring them back which is incredibly exciting. We’re using the same recipe, so it’s a real taste of nostalgia. We can’t wait to share it with both long-time fans and a whole new generation, and will be relaunching Eucalyptus Diamonds in time for the Melbourne Royal Show this September.”

Founded in 1977, The Melbourne Rock Candy Company is located at Kyabram, Victoria, and is one of Australia’s few remaining traditional confectionary manufacturers. Using traditional recipes, processes and retrofitted machinery from the 1940’s, they craft a range hand-made boiled sweets including nostalgic favourites such as Humbugs, Bulls Eyes, Fruit Rock, Rosy Apples, and Umbrellas, making approximately 240,000 lollies every hour. These timeless treats resonate with generations of Australians who recall fond memories of childhood trips to milk bars and family outings.

“Customers love our rock candy because it reminds them of their childhood, special people, and cherished places. With just one taste, you’re transported back to the first time you enjoyed it. It’s a sweet piece of nostalgia that every generation can appreciate, whether its grandparents reminiscing about their youth or adults recalling the lollies they used to buy in the '80s and '90s. Now, the next generation gets to experience the joy of an Australian classic. We can’t wait to hear the reactions when customers taste the Eucalyptus Diamonds,” adds Steve.

“Fans of all ages will have the chance to rediscover Eucalyptus Diamonds at the Melbourne Royal Show this September. The Melbourne Rock Candy Company invites everyone to indulge in this iconic sweet and create new memories with an Australian classic.”
